Gorak Shep

Gorak Shep (or Gorakshep) is a frozen lakebed covered with sand in Nepal, and also the name of small village that sits at its edge at 5,164 metres altitude, near Mount Everest.

Gorak Shep is inside the Sagarmatha National Park, the homeland of the Sherpa people, who became famous for their skills as guides and mountaineers. It is the final acclimatization stop on most common treks to Everest Base Camp from Lukla, following what the Dalai Lama dubbed "the steps to heaven."
